Mayor MooreMayor Gary Moore

On behalf of the City Council and Administrative Staff, I welcome you to the City of Kewanee. We at the City of Kewanee, are committed to making our community better. This can be seen through our core values of care, compassion, and responsibility. Whether you are a lifelong resident, recently moved to Kewanee, or simply taking a few hours out of your day to visit with us, every one of you serve a very important part in our community.

Kewanee was founded in May of 1854. Our community sprang up with the coming of the railroad, and quickly grew to a vibrant and thriving community. In fact, Kewanee grew so fast that the neighbors to the south, Wethersfield, became part of Kewanee. Kewanee is the largest city in Henry County. Kewanee is home to two strong school districts, Kewanee School District and Wethersfield School District. In addition, Kewanee is also home to a community college, Black Hawk East, which is nestled just south of the city limits. Black Hawk is nationally renowned for its equestrian, livestock Judging, and soil judging teams.

This is a very exciting time to live, work, play and worship in Kewanee. With new businesses and opportunities coming to Kewanee, the sky is truly the limit. Kewanee has a small-town charm while still offering many opportunities for dining and business. We have a beautiful park system that offers picnicking, pleasure drives, boating, fishing, and hunting.

Please enjoy your time with us and stay for as long as you would like. You are always welcome in the City of Kewanee
